Empowering Communities

Join a Pawah, or start one for your community.

Brief Introduction:

Pawah, a customary Malay tradition, involves the sharing of livestock within a village setting. Affluent families within the community reach out to those less fortunate, seeking assistance in raising their farm animals. In exchange, upon the animals' reproduction, ownership of the offspring alternates between the involved parties.

Community

Cultivate unity and cooperation among your community, strengthening communal ties. Through mutual aid, families ensure equitable access to vital resources. Collaborative efforts empower neighbors economically and socially, nurturing collective prosperity and well-being.

Livelihood

Grant families an extra income stream through joint ownership of livestock and their progeny. Bolster food security by broadening livelihood options and guaranteeing access to animal goods. Moreover, shared resource ownership fosters sustainable land and animal management, enhancing resource efficiency.

Security

Pawah bolsters food security by broadening food sources, guaranteeing access to animal products during shortages. Additionally, shared livestock ownership encourages sustainable agricultural methods like rotational grazing, fostering long-term food security.

About us

The Pawah School:

We draw inspiration from the traditional Pawah system, adapting it to meet the contemporary psycho-spiritual, socio-economic needs of marginalized communities. With a focus on addressing modern challenges such as wealth inequality, unsustainable farming practices, and more, the initiative aims to promote wholesome living and sustainability. Grounded in the belief that life and the material world are gifts from The Creator, The Pawah School emphasizes accountability, sharing blessings, and cultivating virtues through good deeds. The initiative incorporates two main adaptations to achieve its goals.

BAROKAH (BLESSINGS)

  • Riches and financial surplus are gifts that multiply when shared for the sake of empowering others.
  • Our actions when intended to promote the wellness and success of others will be rewarded both here and hereafter.
  • Making meaningful and purposeful connections increases Barokah.
  • The increase of Barokah also increases the success rate of any initiatives.
  • Barokah and wealth restoration are directly proportionate.

ADAB (GOOD MANNERISM)

  • Adab of Pawah Organizers and family members
  • Adab of Pawah Partners and family members
  • Adab of Herders and family members
  • Adab towards the Pawah Animals and its lineage
  • Adab towards the sources of feed for the Pawah Animal
  • Adab towards the Ecosystem
  • Adab towards the Community

This system has been really beneficial for our small urban farm and community garden here in Melaka. I was skeptical at first being in more of a city type of environment, but applying what I learned at The Pawah School has adapted very nicely to our community.
